If you love where you live but your home no longer suits your needs, there is an alternative to the expensive and stressful business of selling up and moving. A growing family, busy career or simply a need for more space are just some of the reasons why people feel their current home may no longer suit their lifestyle.

The key is to find a builder who can translate what you want into a plan, and then build it brilliantly, at a fixed cost and with the courage to guarantee their work. All of this and more is offered by AVJennings Home Improvements, one of the most trusted choices for home improvements in South Australia.

Project 1 - Improve your home to suit your changing lifestyle
Andrew and Caroline used AV Jennings Home Improvements to transform their home at Hawthorn. Caroline said a desire to accommodate their growing family in the home they had grown to love made renovating a sensible option.
"We bought the house about ten years ago after living and working in Hong Kong for several years," she said. "We were drawn to its outdoor spaces, established gardens and its lovely natural outlook, which we had missed terribly overseas."
"But then after having three young children, we just stopped finding the time to maintain the gardens and instead needed a lot more space indoors."
"Fortunately we were able to work with AVJennings to come-up with a plan that not only provided us with the added space we need inside, but also maintained much of the outdoor space that we have always loved about the house."
Caroline said AV Jennings professionalism and honest advice made this major renovation project as easy and stress free as possible.
"You often hear stories about how difficult renovating can be and it was important to us that we were able to trust our builder and know that they were going to deliver the project on time and on budget," she said.
"But AVJennings staff and tradesmen were just fantastic - always keeping us informed of what work was being done when and constantly offering their advice on how we could get the best value on our project."
"They clearly care about the quality of their work and ensuring their clients are happy with the results."
Caroline said one of the difficulties she found in renovating is trying to visualise from a plan exactly what the renovations would look like when finished.
"An animated 3D fly- would just be fantastic for home owners in giving you peace of mind of seeing exactly how all your ideas and plans on paper will eventually look as part of your home" she said.
Project 2 - A new home without moving
Rick used AVJennings Home Improvements to transform his family home at Glenelg North., says his experience with AVJennings was brilliant.
"We bought the house five years ago and it was quite small," he says. "I've got three children - all boys - and we needed to make the house more comfortable.
"We really loved the area - we just needed to upgrade the home."
It was the AVJennings people who made the difference for Rick - from the sales staff, to the building supervisor who kept him informed every step of the way, to the tradespeople.
He says that "you hear horror stories" about renovations, but the AVJennings supervisor forged a strong and open relationship, as did the individual tradespeople who responded to his every wish.
"Not only do they know how to do their job, they really know how to talk to the customer," he says. "Their relationship with us was brilliant."
The result, Rick says, is a home that suits all of him family's growing needs.
"We're so happy," he says. "Everyone has their own space."
"I was very happy with the final result - my perception of AVJennings at the end of the project is stronger than at the beginning."
For a major renovation that involved every part of Rick's home, that's quite a recommendation.
Project 3 - Bringing a dream home to life
When Demelza and Simon wanted to transform their Erindale investment property into a family home to be proud of, they turned to AV Jennings Home Improvements to bring their dreams to reality.
The couple originally bought the 1930s Tudor cottage as an investment property, but with the intention of one day bringing the property to life as their dream family home.
"We love this area and thought this house had so much character and potential, it would have been a shame to just knock it down and start again," Demelza said.
"We had a lot of our own ideas for rejuvenating the property and AV Jennings were able to incorporate our ideas into their plans and then give us a fixed quote so we knew exactly what we were committing to before they started work."
The results are stunning with the home now boasting a large open-plan kitchen and family area, guest bedroom, bathroom, laundry and home theatre, all together doubling the original size of the home.
"With such a big project like this you really need to have confidence in your builder and AVJennings could not have been more helpful or patient in working with us to achieve the results we wanted," Demelza said.
The striking feature of the renovation is the seamless integration of old and new, bringing the style and character of the original 1930s property into a new contemporary open-plan living space.
"With such a major extension, it was important it didn't leave us feeling like you were leaving one home and entering a completely different house in the extension.
AV Jennings design continued the original 3.2m high ceilings, the window trimming, cornices and skirtings in keeping with the era of the original house adding to the sense of continuity through the homes making it difficult to determine where the original property ends and the new extension begins.
"We couldn't be happier with the results and AV Jennings completed the project on-time and too budget," Demelza said.
"If you own a property you love but want more space, I would definitely recommend you consider renovating, but just make sure you use a builder that you know and trust and will guarantee their work."
